The customer collaborates with laboratories from various domains, from semiconductors development to pharmaceuticals, providing them with top-notch raw and advanced material research services.
Project Summary
We provided CeriumLabs with a platform that streamlines laboratory management and daily processes for laboratory workers. The solution includes LIMS, rich workflow automation functionality, and a custom pipetting module that allows the customer to improve workflow efficiency and accuracy.
Challenges
CeriumLabs had severe challenges with automating their lab processes. Too many tasks lacked coordination, resulting in disorganized and time-consuming lab workflows and trials. The customer also questioned the accuracy of their lab trial results.
They lacked a centralized database connecting their lab data with an ERP system. Finally, data exchange and collaboration patterns at CeriumLabs were also far from efficient.

We helped the customer move from BikaLIMS to Senaite (Plone CMS based LIMS), a more advanced and customizable laboratory management system. It provides an ISO/IEC 17025 compliant environment with excellent data auditing and traceability and integrates with 3d party BI tools.
Data Migration to a Convenient Data Storage
We migrated the customer’s data from their legacy storage to a new data management system that provides rich functionality for storing and modifying the files. The storage integrates with the customer’s ERP system, providing a centralized database for all business-critical information.
Jobs Entry and Tracking
Our solution provides great functionality for creating and tracking laboratory jobs. Users with different roles can create jobs, review all the necessary details about them, modify, track, and review finalized jobs, which ensures efficient lab collaboration.

Automated Workflow Management
We provided the customer with file management functionality that automates many workflows. The solution connects to the customer’s chromatography equipment so that all spectrum files are stored in a single storage visible for all of the customer’s systems.
Custom Pipetting Module
Our team developed a custom module for pipetting that helps lab specialists handle the pipette and pipetting workflows with higher efficiency. This improves the precision of lab trials and helps the customer achieve better accuracy.
Quality Management System
We implemented a Quality Management System (QMS) tailored to the customer’s workflows. It includes functionality for all stages of chemical industry QA testing, including raw material testing, synthesis testing, chemical reaction product testing, and pre-sales product testing.

With more than a decade in custom software development, we found the best methodology for meeting the goals of CeriumLabs. Our team analyzed the customer’s requirements and used their solution design to build an excellent LIMS and lab management system from scratch.
Discovery
During the first stage, our team communicated with the customer to understand their needs and pains to cover. We collected information through interviews, workshops, and documentation analysis. The customer also provided us with a concept for their solution design, which helped us understand their vision.
System Design
We crafted the architecture and workflow design for the solution. At this stage, we came up with solutions that would allow us to implement the customer’s design. We also analyzed the existing market tools, such as Senaite LIMS, to find the ones that will come in handy during this project.
Development
Our development team used our favorite tools, methodologies, and frameworks, such as Python, Zope, Django, Plone CMS, Volto and React.js, to develop the solution. We also ensured all the needed integrations and features to ensure that the customer receives a scalable LIMS tailored to their needs.
Testing and Quality Assurance
After the development, we proceeded with a QA stage. Our testing stages included integration testing, unit testing, performance testing, user acceptance testing, and other QA processes aimed at ensuring the excellent quality of the provided system.
Data Migration
We migrated the customer’s datasets from over 20 years of operations (compounds, sales orders, synthesis, purchases, quality control spectra files, etc.) from BikaLIMS to a more advanced Senaite LIMS solution.
Deployment and Integration
Selecting the right engine for searching chemical compounds by sub-structure was a critical and complex step. We thoroughly analyzed the customer’s compound database and the complexity of searches before deciding from multiple available solutions.
Training and Documentation
We onboarded the customer’s staff by providing the necessary training and documentation. Once the customer’s specialists have any question on the provided system, they can find the answers in the corresponding documents we’ve provided.
Maintenance and Support
We keep the solution running smoothly with our maintenance and support services. Once the customer needs some part of the LIMS and lab management system to be fixed or upgraded, we are ready to help.
